Victoria & South Australia

My last part of the trip on the Australian mainland started in Lakes Entrance on the North-Eastern border of the State Victoria and goes along the coastline via the Great Ocean Road to Adelaide (State: South Australia) and overland back to Melbourne.

My plan was to celebrate Christmas in Adelaide and New Year’s Eve in Melbourne.
I was a little bit confused as I saw that Adelaide is completely dead on Christmas. There are no people on the streets and on December 24th the bars and shops were only open until 5pm. Then I celebrate “our” Christmas with some wine and a candle aside my camper on the Caravan Park.

But I was really lucky on the 25th.
There was a lovely older couple from New Zealand near my site on the Caravan Park and they invited me and also two other backpackers to a lovely and awesome Christmas Dinner with Turkey, Ham, roasted pumpkins, Christmas pudding and fancy Christmas crackers!

New Year’s Eve in Melbourne was also fantastic. The day before I had no plan what I should do. There are so many party’s in this city (over 4`000), but most of them were fully booked or too expensive respectively too “high society”. But then I got an invitation from Allan (I was with him on the Myanmar Intrepid tour and he lives in Melbourne) to his private Christmas Party in his home! He and his friends were so lovely to me and we had a great time with BBQ in the garden and a great view to the midnight firework over Melbourne on his rooftop!

These were just two short stories on my way through Victoria and part of South Australia. I had a lot of special, fancy, lovely, beautiful but also annoying and thoughtful moments on my whole trip on the Australian mainland. Special thanks goes to all this amazing people which I met during this trip. And of course also to “Julia” 🙂 my lovely Camper which had not a single problem on the more than 7’000km trip.

The stops on the trip in Victoria and South Australia were:

  • Lakes Entrance & 90 miles Beach
  • Yanakie & Wilsons Promontory
  • Phillip Island
  • Torquay
  • Apollo Bay
  • Warrnambool
  • Portland Bay
  • Mount Gambier & Beachport
  • Kingston SE
  • Adelaide
  • Bordertown
  • Halls Gap (Grampians National park)
  • Melbourne & St Kilda

So then, my next trip will be 3 weeks Tasmania. Cheers.
